BOB Talk: Brewing Inclusion – Understanding Autism & Neurodiversity

November 17 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm
$13.78

Join Katie Ashley for a TED Talk–style evening exploring autism, neurodiversity, and building more inclusive communities.

Join us at Barn Owl Brewing for an engaging, TED Talk–style talk with Katie Ashley, Education Specialist at Canucks Autism Network (CAN), with a Master of Education in Special Education, specializing in Autism and Developmental Disabilities, from the University of British Columbia and a Bachelor of Science in Therapeutic Recreation from Dalhousie University.

Katie’s passion for recreation and supporting individuals on the autism spectrum led her to CAN, where she began as a Program Coordinator overseeing children’s programs for autistic children under 13. She now works in CAN’s training department, developing workshops and resources that help educators, first responders, travel professionals, recreation professionals, and other groups become more inclusive and accessible to Autistic people.

In this informal and thought-provoking talk, Katie will explore autism and neurodiversity, including common characteristics, current prevalence statistics, and emerging research trends. Most importantly, she’ll share practical strategies to encourage understanding, acceptance, and inclusion in our everyday interactions. Whether you’re new to the topic or have people on the spectrum in your life, come ready to learn, challenge assumptions, ask questions, and discover how we can create more welcoming communities.

Grab a pint, bring your curiosity, and let’s brew a little more inclusion! Enjoy an evening of big ideas and great conversation. Each ticket includes admission and one beverage.
