DESCRIPTION:Dr. Fiona MacDonald explores social division\, the impact of social media\, and how compassion and curiosity can strengthen human connection. \n\n\n\n\nJoin us at Barn Owl Brewing for an engaging\, TED Talk–style talk with Dr. Fiona MacDonald\, Associate Professor of Political Science at The University of Northern British Columbia and UNBC’s Public Scholarship Lead. \nDr. MacDonald will explore why many people feel increasingly divided in today’s world\, with a particular focus on the role social media plays in shaping our interactions\, opinions\, and sense of connection. She will discuss how differences in perspective can challenge relationships\, communities\, and public conversation. \nIn this informal and accessible talk\, she will share practical strategies rooted in compassion\, emotional validation\, and curiosity that can help us build and maintain meaningful relationships\, even across disagreement\, and create stronger\, more connected communities. \nGrab a drink\, settle in\, and enjoy an evening of big ideas and great conversation.
